Breezefree designed and installed this striking retractable canopy for the prestigious Restaurant & Bar Design Awards in 2013.
The Farmiloe Building in Clerkenwell was chosen as the location for the awards night. The venue was divided into five unique ‘Box Project’ spaces, each of which were planned and realised by dedicated design teams. As a grade II listed Victorian building with unique features, the venue presented Breezefree with a unique set of design challenges, from restrictions on any new fixings to the fabric of the building through to the plethora of approvals that had to be gained.
Working with Nicholas Alexander on the concept and design of Space 5, Breezefree designed, manufactured and installed a 115 square metre retractable canopy, providing a striking counterpart to Nicholas’ theatrical kitchen area. The final result reflected the design ethos of the awards while working in harmony with the Victorian styling of the building.
Roy Westwood, Levy Restaurants’ Creative Director, commented: “There is no limit to Breezefree’s creativity and ambition to deliver something extraordinary. Despite limitations with the building, a very specific brief and having to satisfy numerous stakeholders, Breezefree came up with an exceptional concept that surpassed all our expectations.”
