With the installation of a group of retractable pergolas, Breezefree has provided a large covered outdoor area at California Country Park.
Breezefree was contacted by the landscape architects Anthony Stiff Associates with a view to recommending solutions for cover of an outdoor area at California Country Park, in the borough of Fichhampstead, Berkshire. The area adjoins the park’s cafe and restaurant, and overlooks the large lake in the distance, making it ideal for alfresco dining. The cafe and the surrounding area would be undergoing an extensive refurbishment, including paving and landscaping. Breezefree provided several proposals using different products, highlighting the considerations that would need to be taken into account, and working with the client in order to guide a decision on the configuration that would be most suitable.
The final approved design was for a group of freestanding Pratic pergolas with retracting roofs designed to project outwards from two sides of the building, whilst accommodating the existing trees. The layout would provide a continuous formation around the perimeter of the building with 106 square metres of cover. Pratic pergolas were chosen due to their unrivalled quality, and durability. The client also chose to have integrated lighting within the pergola roofs, with flashing between the building and the structures and a bespoke gutter in a matching RAL colour.
Installation needed to be carried out in accordance with the main contractor’s programme for the whole project, so timing was crucial. Our team worked collaboratively with PT Contractors who were working on site simultaneously. The pergolas have integrated drainage providing fully concealed water management to beneath ground level. The motorised pergola covers can be retracted at the press of a button on the remote control and closed again just as quickly: perfect for dealing with the unpredictability of British weather! The integrated lighting can also be adjusted by remote control to provide the ideal ambience in the space.
The result is an enormous, covered outdoor space provided for the public’s use, with fully adjustable high-quality structures that will ensure that visitors to the park are shaded in the summer months and protected from the elements in the colder months: providing adjustable cover all year round, whatever the weather.
