D’Parys

D’Parys

In classic style with a modern twist, multiple free-standing sail shades provide unique cover for the outdoor dining area of a Victorian-built hotel.

With the dining experience being very much at the heart of D’Parys Bedford, an outdoor dining area with overhead protection was an integral part of the hotel’s programme of refurbishment work. The hotel’s architects had drawn up a geometric design, as it suited the hotel’s refurbished Victorian styling with a contemporary twist.

Breezefree were tasked with interpreting the concept and making it work practically. In keeping with the design brief, reclaimed Victorian gate posts were used as supports for the sail awnings. Ropes were chosen as the simplest way of attaching the sails to the posts, so sailing knots were used, in keeping with the theme. A very heavyweight PVC fabric was also specified as the most suitable material for the situation.

Covering an area of 8 square metres, the interlayered sail shades make a strong visual impression. Consistent overhead shelter is ensured with any gaps on the lower tier being neatly covered by those above. A scheme of contrasting colours was chosen to increase definition and visual impact, with the sails illuminating vibrantly in the sunshine. The result is a striking outdoor dining area that is both practical and elegantly designed.
